So, I’ve been home all week fighting some anonymous disease. Yesterday, I decided that enough was enough and dragged myself off to the doctor. He told me that I’ve got bronchitis, told me to stay home from work until Monday and prescribed some antibiotics.

Bleh.

And I’ve come to the conclusion that even though I have Rogers Digital cable with a gazillion channels daytime tv still sucks, though not as much as it did before I had digital cable.

I upgraded to Asterisk 1.2.0 last night. It went fairly smoothly, though I did end up scraping the first attempt and recompiling everything. The only hiccup were the pre-existing files in /usr/lib/asterisk/modules. A couple of the modules there weren’t installed by the new installation so when asterisk fired up, it tried to load them, couldn’t and died. Removing them and recompiling seemed to do the trick.

One of the new features I haven’t tried yet is the new syntax for the dialplans. There’s a new option that allows you to specifiy the order of the priorities by the order they appear in in the file rather than by having to manually number them. This will make it much easier to insert/delete an instruction in a dialplan because you won’t have to manually renumber anything.

The only other annoyance is the appearance of a warning on the console every 50 seconds telling me that update_registry is restricting registrations for a peer to 60 seconds when 1200 seconds were requested. There’s probably an option somewhere I have to tweak to make it go away.

My friends Rob and Yuki had baby #2 this past weekend. Congratulations, guys! 🙂

While shopping in the Eaton Centre this past Friday, my cellphone received a message via Bluetooth from a phone that must have been nearby. I accepted the message but fortunately did not blithly allow the installer to install something. When I got back to the hotel, I downloaded a virus scanner for my Nokia 6620 and was mildly surprised to find that the payload of the message was, in fact, a virus.

This is the first time I’ve ever encountered a cellphone virus and I can’t think of anyone else I know who has seen one. Naturally, I quarentined the message and did a little research on the virus and determined it was a variant of the CommWarrior virus. (I’ve since removed the infected file from my phone so I’m not sure which variant it was.)

Kathy and I went to Toronto this past weekend for my cousin’s birthday and my uncle’s birthday. We stayed at my favourite Toronto hotel, the Westin Harbourcastle from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon.

Friday morning, we were treated to fly-bys by several heritage aircraft who were presumably flying in support of Memorial Day celebrations in Toronto. Kathy and I went shopping Friday afternoon. This included a trip to MEC and walking almost the whole of the Eaton Centre. In the end, we bought a gift certificate and a small backpack (for geocaching) at MEC and a couple of birthday cards at the Eaton Centre.

Saturday, my Dad and I went geocaching while my Mom and Kathy went shopping. The weather was great and our caching activites took us out to the Toronto Islands where we found a couple of caches, one at the eastern end of Ward’s Island (GCFE01) and the other on Algonquin Island (GCKNWM). I hadn’t been out to the Islands in years, possibly since I worked for Canadian Tire Petroleum’s head office in the early 1990’s.

Sunday started with a swim in the pool followed by brunch at Toula’s on the very top of the south tower of the hotel. After packing, we headed back to Ottawa. The major excitement on the trip was a deer in the ditch looking intently across the road like he wanted to be on the other side. This occured on the 416 a few kilometres north of our last deer encounter. Fortunately, the deer ran away from the road when I honked the horn rather than across it.

My circle of friends got a little larger this morning with my friends Christine and Ken having daughter #2. 🙂
