A few photos from Les Grands Feux du Casino du Lac-Leamy (Day 1)
I headed out to Les Grands Feux du Casino du Lac-Leamy on Saturday as one of the festival’s volunteer photographers. Besides taking pictures of the fireworks, the volunteer photographers are asked to take pictures of everything else – the site, signs, volunteers, stage acts and the other entertainers on the site – to help document the festival for next year’s organizers.
One of the acts that caught my eye was an undersea-type thing with a diver in an old helmet fighting the tentacle of a giant octopus or squid and a mermaid caught in a net. France was on-stage for the fireworks performance, represented by the team from Pyragric. The theme of the show was “Disco”, featuring music from the 1970s. The show’s designers used a lot of water bombs, which are shells that are shot into the water where they explode on landing or land and wait before exploding. They aren’t very common so it’s a real treat for spectators when they’re used. Here are a few photos from the show itself. As you can see, there’s a fair bit of smoke in some of the images, which is due to the fact that the wind was blowing toward the crowd for much of the show. Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done about that. |
