Argh! I tempted Fate!
A few months ago, I wrote about looking forward to WordCamp Toronto 2008. I ended the entry with the following:
Hopefully, my schedule won’t change between now and then. 🙂
Well, it appears I was tempting Fate.
As it turns out, I am going to be in Quebec City at the same time for the 16th General Assembly and International Scientific Symposium of the International Council on Monuments and Sites. I have been a member of ICOMOS since the early 1990s and this will be the second general assembly I will have attended. I’ve been looking after the various behind-the-scenes things involved in their online presence since I joined and this will be an opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the people I’ve corresponded with over the years, so I really should be there.
Since it’s very difficult to be in two places at the same time, I’m not going to be able to go to WordCamp. I emailed the organizers to see about a refund and found out that they’d even had a special prize for me as I was the first person to register. Given that the registration fee isn’t much, I’ve decided to let the organizers use it to send a student to WordCamp instead.
Hopefully, there will be another WordCamp in Toronto or even Ottawa sometime in the near future that I will be able to attend.
As I already said … "BOOOOOOO!" you can’t come – but don’t worry, we’ll be hosting WordCamp 2009 as well …
