First ride of 2009
Ottawa has been having some nice weather the last couple of days, so yesterday I checked over my bike and got it ready for the road. It was nice again this evening so I grabbed my stuff and headed out for the first ride of the season.
I made my way to Dow’s Lake where I picked up the bike path along the Canal. Following it down to the NAC, I headed to Parliament Hill where I did a quick lap past the Library of Parliament before making my way back along the Ottawa River Parkway. Normally, I would have taken the bike path, but there were still sections blocked by snow.
This is one of the earliest first rides I’ve taken. Last year, I wrote about the first ride of 2008 on April 25th. Hopefully, this is good omen of the weather for the next few months.
I’m going to hold you personally responsible for making sure that the good weather continues for at least the next 7-8 months. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the comment by the way. I was wondering what ever became of you after the breakfast.
I do everything in my power to ensure that the weather is nice — I think I’ve been doing a good job over the last couple of days, don’t you?
Unfortunately, I couldn’t stick around after breakfast because I had to go curling at 1pm. Hopefully, I’ll be able to linger a bit longer at the next one. 🙂
i really hope it stays with us cause quite frankly i’ve had enough of this shit. all the snow is dirty. it’s time for it to go. just go.
mind you, we’ve been known to get some of our biggest dumps in april….just sayin’.
fingers crossed!
Oh, they are permanently crossed! I have no interest in anything resembling snow during the next few months. Curling when it’s nice out is bad enough!
Gordon – nice chatting with you over breakfast. I don’t bike, but I was thrilled to start running outside again. Still have to hop over some serious puddles, but it is so much nicer than running on a treadmill. You don’t feel so much like a gerbil. *smile*
I can relate… getting back on the bike was much nicer than cycling to nowhere in the gym. I worried about splattering the joggers as I passed them. No screams or epithets, so I assume I missed them. :>
I’m looking forward to the next OBB! 🙂
It’s a lot sooner this year. Suppose not getting a two feet of snow dumped on us in March helps.
I’ve missed my river runs.
